People Assisting Animal Control (PAAC)

For more than 10 years, PAAC has been dedicated to improving the health and well-being of pets and the people who love them throughout the Coastal Bend and South Texas. As the largest high-volume spay/neuter clinic in South Texas, we have built our organization around one core belief: no family should have to watch a beloved pet suffer simply because veterinary care is out of reach.

This commitment recently allowed us to expand our impact by opening a second clinic in Alice, Texas. Made possible through the generous support of PetSmart Charities, this new location increases access to affordable veterinary care for families in Jim Wells County and the surrounding rural communities, where access to veterinary services has historically been limited. The expansion allows us to reach even more underserved pet owners while reducing the need for families to travel long distances for essential veterinary care.

While spay/neuter remains the foundation of our work, our impact extends far beyond sterilization. We provide affordable wellness care, vaccinations, heartworm testing and prevention, soft tissue surgeries, dental procedures, diagnostics, and other essential veterinary services that help keep pets healthy and in their homes. We also treat medical emergencies when families have nowhere else to turn, often serving as the only option for pet owners who cannot afford the cost of a traditional veterinary hospital.

Unlike many organizations, PAAC's mission is centered on access to care. We recognize that transportation, financial hardship, language barriers, and a shortage of affordable veterinary services prevent thousands of families from obtaining care for their pets. Our dedicated outreach team actively works within underserved neighborhoods, meeting families where they are, connecting them with resources, scheduling appointments, providing education, and removing barriers that would otherwise prevent pets from receiving lifesaving care.

Our partnerships with municipal shelters, animal control agencies, and community partners strengthen the entire animal welfare system throughout the Coastal Bend and South Texas. By providing affordable veterinary care, we help prevent owner surrenders, reduce shelter intake, decrease euthanasia, improve public health through vaccination and disease prevention, and support municipalities that often lack the resources to meet the growing demand for animal services.

Every dollar invested in PAAC is reinvested into our mission, allowing us to expand access to veterinary care for families who need it most. Whether performing a life-changing soft tissue surgery, relieving chronic pain through dental treatment, responding to an emergency, or helping a family keep their pet healthy through preventive care, our goal remains the same: to ensure that every pet has access to compassionate, high-quality, affordable veterinary care regardless of their owner's financial circumstances.

As the only organization in our region solely focused on expanding access to veterinary care, PAAC fills a critical gap in the Coastal Bend's animal welfare network. Through innovation, community partnerships, outreach, and strategic expansion, we continue to increase access to veterinary care while creating healthier pets, stronger families, and more compassionate communities across South Texas.
