*Family Counseling Service or FCS was established in 1942 by the United Way and has served the Coastal Bend for over 75 years!

*FCS is Nationally Accredited through the Council on Accreditation and meets "national" standards for her professional counseling therapy and crime victims programs.

*We provide a wide array of services that include professional counseling services for children, individuals, families, seniors, the underinsured, and the uninsured. No one is turned away due to an inability to pay.

*Approximately 50% of the families we serve have annual household incomes of $30,000 or less. Many are uninsured or underinsured. In 2017 FCS provided 8,184 therapy hours to individuals, families, and seniors in our community.

*FCS has seen a significant increase in counseling hours, post Harvey. For example, from January to July of 2017 FCS provided 4,607 billable hours, during this same time period in 2018, FCS provided 5,907 billable hours, an increase of 1300 hrs.

*FCS main office is in Corpus Christi but we also have offices in Kingsville and Aransas Pass.

*FCS works with and accepts referrals for therapy and crimes victim's services from many other community organizations that include but are not limited to: CASA, Child Advocacy Center, Amistad, Spohn Memorial, Bayview Hospital, and the Behavioral Health Center of Nueces County etc....

*Your generous donation would go to support many of the wonderful programs provided by FCS which includes: individual, family, and couples therapy; play therapy; trauma reduction therapy for victims of crime; crime victims programs, senior services (therapy and outreach); parent education classes, etc…

*The hard cost of providing one hour of therapy in 2017 was $117.00 with an average reimbursement of $56.00 per hour. This resulted in a loss of approximately $61.00 for every hour of therapy we provided. Your donation will help cover the cost for those who cannot afford counseling.

Please, donate to FCS and help those clients in Aransas Pass, Ingleside, Portland, Port Aransas, Rockport and Corpus Christi and other Coastal Bend Communities with therapy services for those who have and continue to deal with emotional trauma related to Hurricane Harvey and other issues!

Thank you for considering FCS for the Day of Giving.
FCS has many wonderful success stories but because client confidentiality is a must for all of our clients we are reluctant to publish public testimonies. The following client comments and story is representative of many of our clients who access our counseling and crime victim's services.

Client comments:

Excellent Service and Help. Very helpful in everything.

BEFORE I CAME INTO THERAPY I WAS NOT ABLE TO COPE WITH ANXIETY AND ANY ISSUES THAT APPROACHED ME. AFTER GOING TO THERAPY FOR A DW WEEKS I HAD LEARNED TO FIND DIFFERENT THINGS TO FOCUS ON INSTEAD OF BAD THOUGHTS ALL THE TIME. I LEARNED TO REMEMBER THAT I CANT CONTROL OTHERS ACTIONS AND THINGS CANT BE CHANGED EVEN IF I AM ON TOP OF EVERYONE'S BUSINESS. IVE LEARNED TO TAKE CARE OF MYSELF AND FOCUS ON POSITVITY. THE GOALS I HAD COMING IN HAVE BEEN ALMOST REACHED! I CAN SEE NOW THAT I AM NOT 'CRAZY' AND I WILL GET BETTER.

WORKING ON EVERYDAY SKILLS WITH MY CHILD AS WELL AS SEEKING NEW WAYS TO COMMUNICATE WITH HER.

HE HAS OPENED UP AND STARTED TAKING PART IN SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AGAIN AS WELL AS COMING TO TALK TO ME WHEN HE IS FEELING DOWN INSTEAD OF KEEPING TO HIMSELF.

All the sessions have been very beneficial for XXXX. He looks forward to all his sessions with Ms XXXX and wants to know what day and time each one is each week. He does not want to miss them! :)

All of it, the advice, coping exercises, having someone who understands and makes me feel heard and that I am not crazy. :)

Client Story:
A single mother of two, brought her young daughter to therapy after discovering that she had been sexually abused by her boyfriend on multiple occasions. Individual and Family therapy was provided to assess and heal the trauma to the mother, daughter and younger brother. The family was engaged in the therapy process for a full two years. The daughter whose grades and social life had suffered as a result of the sexual abuse blossomed and recently won a major competition. The daughter showed the most growth and healing as she prepared for court; and experienced and improved relationship with her mother and brother. The Family was able to develop a good support system and the daughter acknowledged feeling like a survivor and not a victim.
