YWCA Corpus Christi

About this Organization

When the YWTeen Program began in 1946, the girls served in were high school age. Today's challenges are so intense that the program now serves 5th and 6th-grade girls, ages 10-12, to reach them before they make life-altering decisions. We find, however, that girls seem "softer," calmer, and more conscientious than in recent years. YWTeens encourages girls to think beyond their immediate environs.

The YWTeen Program serves 5th and 6th grade girls in area schools each week during school semesters.

• Groups of 14-20 girls participate in the character-building activities.

• Based on the nationally-recognized, research-based Girls Circle curriculum.

• Structure, steps, and practices increase positive connections with parents, siblings, peers, teachers, and friends while having fun!

• Promotes girls' healthy relationships with adults, peers, and community.

The YWCA Fitness Connection Program serves seniors aged 55+. Water and Land classes are designed to lessen the effects of aging. Participants are able to come to the YWCA and interact with their friends while working out, taking classes, and becoming physically and mentally stronger. YWCA Fitness Connection keeps seniors mobile, healthy, and involved. YWCA offers a weight room, cardio room, near-Olympic-sized pool, and gym. Pickleball, basketball, and aerobics classes are all popular group activities. Participants report improvement in multiple health indicators, such as blood pressure and blood sugar, flexibility, and strength. They also report an increased sense of well-being! Loneliness affects general health, cardio health, and brain function. YWCA provides a great place for seniors to meet and interact with their friends at interest groups, classes, and meetings.
